Biofuels Project
During the Summer of 2001 the Community Biofuels Project was initiated as a series of conversations between two local organic producers, the director of Sustainable Agriculture at Central Carolina Community College (CCCC), an auto mechanic, and an entrepreneur. From those conversations emerged a two-semester, college-level course called Sustainable Energy Solutions: Biofuels through CCCC’s Continuing Education program. It was uncertain whether or not the local community would respond positively to such a course but by the first day of class a dozen enthusiastic members of the surrounding community were at their desks ready to learn about this alternative fuel.
La Leche League
An international, non-profit, nonsectarian organization dedicated to providing education, information, support, and encouragement to women who want to breastfeed. All breastfeeding mothers and pregnant women interested in breastfeeding are welcome to come to our free meetings or call our leaders for breastfeeding help. We also provide health care professionals with continuing education opportunities and access to the latest research on lactation management.
The Moncure Chessworks
Opened in 1998 by scrap metal sculptor, Lyle Estill. It is primarily a metal working shop, although Estill shares the space with other resident artists, who have worked in glass, fabric, cement, and a wide variety and other mediums.
