Community investment, represented as equity rather than a liability on our balance sheet, strengthens our financial position, giving us more financial power and flexibility. Chatham Marketplace is a beautiful, living store, and we can be even stronger. Additional investment ensures that the Co-op has strong cash flow and working capital as we move through the first months after opening. These additional funds will allow the Co-op to respond strategically to needs that we could not have anticipated prior to opening but will be essential in maintaining our strong position in the community. These needs could be anything from specialized equipment in our kitchen or retail space to more staff in a certain department to special programs and services that the Co-op could sponsor both at the store and in the larger community. These notes are an instrumental part of the continued financing of Chatham Marketplace. The Community Investment Notes program allows individuals to invest directly in a socially, economically, and environmentally responsible business in their community.
